My project studio is specifically suited to record percussion and drums and allows me to overdub parts without the need for me or the producer to travel or hire other studios. For this reason, thanks to the lack of transportation, set up costs and waste of time in traffic jams, I am able to offer my recording services at a very reasonable and reduced rate in comparison to my regular session fee in London. In addition to that, do not forget that there would be no other bills for hiring a suitable studio which is vital if your aim is to record great sounding percussion or drums.
My percussion overdubs are of a very high sound quality performed with skill and accuracy and suitable for any type of projects. I have recorded tracks for several top producers and received great compliments.

The studio is built in a sonically treated environment. It is a square room of 30 sq.m with a 4-meter high ceiling.
I  record congas by positioning Shure SM57 microphones either on top or bottom or both depending on the type of session as well as two AKG C480 with CK61 ULS capsules as overheads. Depending on the requirements of the producer, I sometimes capture a mono ambience of the room by positioning an AKG 414 TLII five metres away. I use same microphones but with different positionings for Timbales. I also have a vast collection of other percussion instruments.
I am also  frequently asked to overdub 'special effects' which I record in stereo  with two AKG condensers in a A-B position.
I use valve microphone pre-amps and do not use any processing in order to give complete freedom and control to the producer. However, I aim to record my percussion with a big, warm and slightly retro sound unless requested otherwise. All the raw overdubs are recorded into Logic  through a MOTU 828 sound-card as A/D converter at 24bit 44.1Khz resolution. On specific request, I am also able to record at different sample rates up to 96Khz.
I normally receive guide tracks by email as mp3s, which should have at least two bars of count-in and details of tempo, style and specific requirements. I normally deliver the finished project either as Wav/Aiff files all starting from bar 1 so that they can be lined up easily in any DAW. Alternatively I can transfer them as 16bit 44.1Khz Audio files or as a Logic Project. I then upload the files onto a dedicated server on the Internet so that the end user is able to retrieve them rapidly or at their pleasure. However, if time is not an issue, I can to deliver them on a CD, DVD by mail or by express courier.
Recently I was even asked to compress my recordings into stereo mp3s at 320 Kbps and transfer them urgently by e-mail apparently with no perceivable sound degradation!
At the moment, in my constant pursuit to always better the quality of my recordings, I am experimenting with some newly produced microphones, pre-amps and sound-cards. Any changes from my set up described will notified on these pages.

The following albums contain songs in which my percussion where recorded by me in the manner described above. Please click on the picture to listen.
