I have formally studied Latin American percussion and drums in Cuba with Enrique Pla (Irakere) and Samuel Formell (Los Van Van) among others. Furthermore, I have personally researched on several other Latin styles as well as studied privately with master percussionist Robin Jones who invited me in 1994 to join his own big band. In 1992 I moved to London permanently and, since then, I have had the opportunity to perform with many great international artists and bands of various styles and backgrounds, circling the World and accumulating credits on over fifty records. In 1993 I was offered a teaching post at the Musicians' Institute in London where I was appointe Deputy Head of the Percussion Dept. until 1997 when I could not keep up my teaching commitments any longer due to a very demanding performing schedule. However, up to date, I have been very fortunate to pursue a fulfilling and exciting professional career both as a teacher and as a player. Currently, I am a visiting faculty at the LCCM (London Centre of Contemporary Music) in London and, when not on the road, I am busy recording for international clients and producers mainly from my own studio in Barcelona (thanks to the wonders of the Internet) as well as developing my own musical projects.
Here is a list of some of the well known artists and bands with whom I have had the opportunity to perform, tour and record:
'Mainstream' Ramp, Leon Ware, Amy Winehouse, Rosa Lopez (Spain), Karen Ramirez, Jocelyn Brown, Gloria Gaynor, Ricky Martin, Shaun Escoffery, Toyah Wilcox, Modern Romance, James Taylor Quartet, Stephen Gately, Funky LowLives, Nova Fronteira, Courtney Pine, 883 (Italy), Keziah Jones, Peppercorn, Daphne & Celeste and the London Community Gospel Choir.
'World Music' Leo Vanelli, Tino Gonzales, Chiva Riva, Bobby Carcasses, Robin Jones & King Salsa, Jazzinho, Jesus Alemany (Cubanismo), Avraham Fried, Shama Ei Zadeh, Suzan Roshan, Osvaldo Chacon, Omid, Arrow, Leo Dan, Academicos de Madureira, Quilombo do Samba and Motimba.
'DJs' Louie Vega, DJ Disciple, Booker T, Victor Simonelli and several others.
Most of all, I have had the honour to be associated with many great musicians who, although unknown by the general public for not being in the spotlight of the current 'celebrity' culture, nevertheless they have contributed with their talent to the success of many popular artists and bands. You can find out about some of them on my Links page.
